Subject: The Independent on Sunday - special issue on street crime
Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2008 13:35:22 +0000
Hi there,
we're producing a special issue of the Independent on Sunday's colour supplement, the New Review.
It will focus on assessing the current causes, consequences and solutions to street crime in the UK, with
interviews from a range of perspectives, ranging from a serving policeman and a young offender turned mentor,
to a street academy principal and a charity worker from NCH.
In this instance, we'd like to get in contact with a victim of serious street crime - anything from a brutal
mugging to an attack by a street gang, specifically by young attackers (ie under 21) - who'd be happy to have
their photo taken and talk to us about their story.
The interview would take place over the phone, it'd be short (around 15-20 minutes) and the published word
length would be around 250-300 words. We can also provide a small incentive, too (up to £50), as a thank you
gesture, if [...] appropriate.
We have a long history of covering contentious subjects (particularly our long-running campaign on mental health,
which was short-listed for a media award) with the utmost sensitivity and care; this won't be a sensationalist
account, but a reflective one aimed at providing an insight into this complex issue.
Apologies but the deadline for this is quite tight - ideally we'd want to speak to somebody by Monday.
