Criminology

This page has been included to inform users about the "realities" and opinions surrounding violent crime, according to some of the leading academic authorities on the subject, divided into the four categories below.

We believe this page is a vital addition to the website for this reason: justice4victims.org promotes the devising and actioning of alternatives to existing criminal justice policy (however radical or extreme), but firmly believes that to take such steps one should be learned in the subject matter.  There are two sides to every coin, and knowledge of the factors affecting both sides is a far more valuable tool than mere opinion.

To achieve success we must be influential - this requires neutrality and rational argument; we must have the ability to credibly support ourselves against every angle, even in the face of quality and educated adversity.  Failure to defend one's argument in such a subject matter risks its dismissal as extremist or right-wing.  One must also have realistically considered the potential consequences of their success.

Full versions of the thesis extracts on this page can be found in "Criminological Perspectives - Essential Readings" (McLaughlin et al. 2003), published by Sage, a book we highly recommend to our readers.  Exceptional contributors to our FORUM may find their work added to this page alongside other recognized criminologists.
